About this spot
Sakamoto is a historic town that developed as the gate town of Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei, and a unique landscape remains where Tendai Buddhist satobou (subsidiary temples) line the approach to Hiyoshi Shrine. Shigain Monzeki is the central temple of this area, a prestigious gate temple where successive imperial Buddhist priests, including Emperor Gomizunoo, served as head priests. The garden, said to be designed by Kobori Enshu, is designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty, featuring carefully trimmed trees and white sand with a calm, refined beauty. The stone-wall streets of the Anao stonemasons that spread outside the temple are highly photogenic, and simply walking slowly through them allows you to experience the peaceful, characteristic atmosphere of Sakamoto.

2026年7月23日(木)19時30分から20時10分まで、近江舞子中浜水泳場から打ち上げられる約2,000発の花火大会です。日本最大の湖・琵琶湖の広大な湖面を舞台に、スターマインや尺玉が次々と夜空に開きます。静かな湖面に映る逆さ花火の美しさは、内陸の湖ならではの絶景で、比良山系の山並みのシルエットと花火の光のコントラストは息をのむ迫力です。波音の代わりに湖面をわたる穏やかな風とともに、約40分間の光と音の競演を湖畔から楽しみましょう。夏の琵琶湖に刻まれる、家族の忘れられない夜の記憶になります。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は主催者の公式発表で確認を。終了直後は近江舞子駅が大変混雑するため、フィナーレ後は湖畔で少し余韻を楽しんでから時間差での帰宅がおすすめ。帰りの湖西線の時刻は事前に調べておきましょう。足元が暗くなるためライトがあると安心です。
Tips
About 5 minutes on foot from Hiyoshi Shrine. Admission is 500 yen for adults. The stone walls along Sakamoto's satobou street are free to explore. To reach Omifunako next, take the Kosei Line from JR Hieisan Sakamoto Station—it's convenient to get off at Omifunako Station (approximately 15-20 minutes).
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. Afternoon light softly illuminates the stone walls and garden.
