Adjacent to Miidera Temple's grounds, the Otsu City History Museum is a facility where you can systematically learn about Lake Biwa's and Otsu's history and culture. From the ancient province of Omi to Otsu-kyo (capital) and lake culture and daily life, the museum presents the region's history through abundant exhibits in an easy-to-understand manner. Spending an afternoon viewing the exhibits in the cool museum interior is an enjoyable experience for both children and adults. Learning about the origins and cultural background of Lake Biwa, the stage for tonight's fireworks, will add deeper appreciation to the evening spectacle. The compact scale allows families with small children to view everything without difficulty.

2026年8月6日(木)19時30分から20時30分にかけて、大津市・滋賀県営大津港沖の水面一帯から約10,000発が打ち上がるびわ湖大花火大会です。日本最大級の淡水湖である琵琶湖の広大な水面と夜空を舞台に、スターマインや大玉など多彩な仕掛けが次々と繰り広げられます。湖面に映る逆さ花火が連動して広がる光景は、海辺や陸上の花火大会では得られない独特の美しさです。周囲に遮るものがなく、空が広く開けた湖上からの打ち上げは、どこから見ても視界いっぱいに花火が広がります。フィナーレの連発で琵琶湖全体が光に包まれる瞬間は、1日のすべての時間がここに収束するクライマックスです。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会公式の発表を確認してください。終了後は京阪びわ湖浜大津駅・JR大津駅周辺が大変混雑します。フィナーレ後はその場でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動すると、混雑を避けやすいです。帰りの電車の時刻は事前に確認しておき、混雑に備えて時間に余裕を持った計画を立てましょう。足元が暗い場所もあるのでライトを活用してください。

About 7 minutes on foot from Miidera Station, just a short walk from Miidera Temple grounds. Admission is around 300 yen for adults (subject to change). The museum has air conditioning, making it ideal for an afternoon break during summer. Parking is available. Since the Otsu Port area becomes very crowded after evening on the festival day, use this time to do a final check of your belongings.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. A summer-appropriate spot where you can cool off while viewing exhibits during a hot afternoon.
