The grounds, surrounded by ancient trees, offer a tranquility that makes you forget the bustle of the town center. Simply walking the stone-paved approach path calms the spirit. Walking these sacred grounds on the day of the festival, which has a history of hosting lantern dance dedications, is a truly special experience. Pray for the safe conduct of tonight's fireworks and festival before moving to the next location. Several large, ancient trees on the grounds provide pleasant shade even in summer.

2026年8月15日(土)開催の山鹿灯籠まつり納涼花火大会は、山鹿市街地・さくら湯周辺を会場に約4,000発の花火が打ち上がります。山鹿灯籠まつりは金灯籠を頭に載せた女性たちが踊る灯籠踊りで知られる熊本県を代表する夏まつりで、その納涼行事として長年親しまれてきた花火大会です。街なかから花火を見上げるスタイルのため、金灯籠の明かりと花火の光が同時に視界に入る山鹿ならではの風景が広がります。約4,000発の花火は市街地の夜空いっぱいに開き、フィナーレの連発は祭りの最高潮を飾るにふさわしい迫力です。

Tips

Located in the town center, within walking distance from Sakura-yu and the Yamashika Municipal Museum. Admission is free. The atmosphere of the shrine grounds is particularly special during the lantern festival period, but please visit respectfully during ceremony times. If you wish to receive a commemorative shrine stamp (goshuin), check the shrine office hours in advance. It's reassuring to use the restrooms on the grounds before evening.
