This shrine has long been cherished by the community as Yamaga City's guardian shrine, and its grounds are also one of the stages for the rituals of the Yamaga Lantern Festival. Surrounded by trees, the shrine grounds offer a quiet that makes you forget the bustle of the town center, and simply walking the stone-paved approach settles the mind. Walking these grounds, with their history as a place where the lantern dance has been dedicated, on the day of the festival is a special experience. Pray for the safety of tonight's fireworks and festival before heading to the next spot. Several ancient large trees stand within the grounds, offering pleasantly cool shade even in summer.

Tips

Located in the town center, within walking distance of Sakura-yu (さくら湯) and the Yamaga City Museum (山鹿市立博物館). Visiting is free. The atmosphere on the grounds is special during the Lantern Festival period, but please stay quiet during ritual times. If you'd like a goshuin (shrine stamp), check the opening hours of the shrine office in advance. It's also a good idea to use the restrooms on the grounds before evening.

Best time to visit

About 45 minutes. The shaded approach stays relatively cool even on a summer afternoon, making it comfortable to walk
