A wooden playhouse built in Meiji 43 (1910) and designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The seating arrangement preserves the Edo-period kabuki style with tiered square seats and a flower walkway. Original stage features such as the rotating stage and the trap room (beneath-stage mechanisms) still exist. One of the few active historic playhouses remaining in Japan, the Yachiyoza may host lantern dance performances during the Yamashika Lantern Festival period. Surrounded by the scent of wood and an impressive weighty atmosphere, you can contemplate the theatrical culture of the Meiji era. Conveniently located within walking distance of Omiya Shrine.

2026年8月15日(土)開催の山鹿灯籠まつり納涼花火大会は、山鹿市街地・さくら湯周辺を会場に約4,000発の花火が打ち上がります。山鹿灯籠まつりは金灯籠を頭に載せた女性たちが踊る灯籠踊りで知られる熊本県を代表する夏まつりで、その納涼行事として長年親しまれてきた花火大会です。街なかから花火を見上げるスタイルのため、金灯籠の明かりと花火の光が同時に視界に入る山鹿ならではの風景が広がります。約4,000発の花火は市街地の夜空いっぱいに開き、フィナーレの連発は祭りの最高潮を飾るにふさわしい迫力です。

開催時間は未定のため、大会公式および山鹿市の発表を必ず直前に確認してください。荒天時の開催可否も同様に公式情報を参照してください。終了後は周辺道路と駐車場周辺が大変混雑します。時間に余裕がある場合は会場周辺で余韻を楽しんでから移動すると、混雑のピークを外せます。帰宅時は足元が暗い場所もあるため、スマートフォンのライトを活用してください。

Located in the center of Yamashika town, a short walk from Omiya Shrine. Admission is approximately 400 yen for adults (please check the official website in advance as prices may vary). Some areas inside allow photography while others do not, so follow the facility's guidance. During the lantern festival period, performances and special exhibitions may be added, potentially offering more highlights than usual. After the tour, walk back to the Sakura-yu area for evening viewing spot selection.
