A Pure Land Buddhist temple with connections to Honda Masanobu (本多正信), a close associate of Tokugawa Ieyasu (徳川家康). Known in Sagamihara as one of the city's oldest temples, this intimate temple grounds surrounded by trees offers a quiet space to catch your breath during the busy fireworks festival day. Spend time touching the history of Sagamihara while slowly viewing the main hall, gate, and stone monuments in the grounds. The calm atmosphere is characteristic of a historic temple in a non-touristy area. It's a good place to stop by when you have extra time before the fireworks.
Tips
Located in the Kamimizo area (上溝エリア), approximately 1 km south from upstream of Takada Bridge, the venue. Bus or bicycle is convenient for transportation. You can freely worship at the temple grounds. Since the surrounding area is residential, please be quiet and respectful when visiting.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. In the afternoon, amid dappled sunlight (木漏れ日), the greenery in the temple grounds is gentle on the eyes.
