The Echizen Washi Paper Village, which spreads across the Imadaté district, is a washi paper production center boasting over 1,500 years of history and is also designated as a National Important Intangible Cultural Property, a hub of traditional craft. The Udatsu Craft Museum is a relocated Edo-period papermaking farmhouse where you can enjoy demonstrations by craftspeople and hands-on papermaking experiences. The actual washi papermaking experience is extremely popular with children, allowing them to take home a one-of-a-kind original washi paper as a souvenir. The adjacent Paper Culture Museum offers detailed learning about the history and manufacturing process of Echizen washi, and visiting both deepens your understanding. Spend a fulfilling afternoon engaged in the hands-on experience of craftsmanship before the evening fireworks.

越前市サマーフェスティバル花火大会は、毎年8月15日に日野川河川緑地公園で開催される北陸を代表する夏の花火大会です。約14,000発という圧倒的な打ち上げ数を誇り、スターマインや大玉の連発が日野川の夜空を豪快に彩ります。川幅を生かした横開きの仕掛けや、水面近くで開く花火は迫力満点で、子どもから大人まで歓声が絶えません。終盤のフィナーレに向けて打ち上げのテンポが上がり、川と山と空が丸ごと光に包まれる瞬間はこの大会最大の見せ場です。お盆の夜に家族で囲む、忘れられない夏の一夜になるでしょう。
Tips
荒天の場合は中止または延期になることがあるため、当日の開催情報は越前市の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は会場周辺の道路が大変混み合います。車の場合は花火終了後しばらく会場付近で過ごしてから移動するか、時間差での出発がおすすめです。帰り道の河川敷は照明が少ないため、小さなライトやスマホのライトで足元を確認しながら歩きましょう。

About 15 minutes by car from Echizen Station. Parking is available. Admission to the Udatsu Craft Museum is 300 yen for adults. The papermaking experience requires an additional fee, and waiting times may occur during busy periods, so it's best to mention your interest early. Visiting the Paper Culture Museum together also requires additional admission. The area gets crowded with families during summer vacation.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes needed. Early afternoon is when experience wait times are relatively shorter.
