About this spot

Shinobugaoka Green Space, the venue for the Fukushima Fireworks Festival, is an open riverbed park spreading out at the point where the Abukuma River and Matsukawa River meet. With its wide lawn and pleasant river views, many families come to secure a spot from early in the day on the day of the fireworks festival. By evening, food stalls line up offering classic festival fare like okonomiyaki and yakisoba. Spreading out dinner while feeling the evening breeze blowing along the river and watching the sky's colors change moment by moment builds anticipation for the fireworks to begin. As the sun sets, the scenery on the opposite bank also darkens, and the countdown to the fireworks begins.

Tips

About 20 minutes by local bus or on foot from Fukushima Station. Traffic restrictions are in place on the day of the fireworks, so check official traffic information in advance. Securing a spot early is key, as good positions start filling up by the early 5 p.m. hour. Temporary restrooms are set up but get crowded, so use them early. Food stalls are busiest right before the show starts, so finish eating early.
