Next stop: Watch fireworks in the night sky over the Sea of Japan, together with the sound of the wavesAbout this spot
This is the viewing area right in front of the waters off Michikawa Fishing Port (道川漁港), the launch site for tonight's fireworks festival. The port's breakwater and coastline are prime spots with an unobstructed view of the Sea of Japan, so arrive early to secure a good viewing spot. In the evening, the sunset over the western horizon is beautiful, and watching the sky gradually shift to indigo while waiting for the show to start is one of the fireworks festival's special pleasures. Spread out the snacks and drinks you brought and enjoy a relaxed time in the sea breeze. Once the sun goes down, the sea breeze turns cold, so it's reassuring to have something to layer on ready ahead of time.
Tips
Access the fishing port from the Michikawa area on National Route 7. On the day of the fireworks festival, nearby parking spaces fill up early, so arrive with plenty of time to spare. Food stalls and temporary shops may be set up, but it's safer to get your food and drinks beforehand. Check the location of the restrooms early on.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 45 minutes. From sunset until the fireworks begin, enjoy watching the sky change color
