Odate Daimonji Festival Fireworks Display (大館大文字まつり花火大会, Nagiki River riverbank/長木川河川敷)

Flow of the course

About this spot

The fireworks display that caps off the Odate Daimonji Festival (大館大文字まつり) launches about 2,000 shells from the Nagiki River riverbank (長木川河川敷) over roughly 40 minutes, from 20:10 to 20:50 on August 11, 2026 (holiday). Large bursts spreading across the full width of the river, together with the light reflected on the water's surface, color the Odate night in a fantastical way. With power befitting the climax of the festival's excitement, it lets you fully feel Tohoku's short summer night. After the finale's rapid succession of shells ends, it is recommended to enjoy the lingering atmosphere on the riverbank for a while until the crowds thin out before heading home.

Tips

Check whether the event will be held in case of bad weather through the official announcements of Odate City and the Odate Daimonji Festival Executive Committee (大館大文字まつり実行委員会). After the event, roads and parking lots around the venue become crowded, so try to leave at staggered times. If you are using JR Odate Station (JR大館駅), it will also be crowded right after the event ends, so it is reassuring to check your return train times in advance.

Best time to visit

Time your visit to the 20:10-20:50 show. Laying your leisure sheet in a spot where you can see the river's surface before the show starts lets you also enjoy the fireworks reflected on the water.
