About this spot

The downtown area centered around the north exit of Mito Station (水戸駅) is home to restaurants serving dishes made with Mito natto (水戸納豆) and local Ibaraki ingredients. On the night of the fireworks display, restaurants around Lake Senba become very crowded, so it is a wise choice to have a leisurely dinner here in the evening beforehand. There are also shopping centers and shopping streets nearby, where you can pick up drinks, snacks, trash bags, and other items needed for watching the fireworks. Keeping in mind a schedule of heading to the venue an hour and a half before the fireworks start, allow yourself plenty of time for the meal and shopping.

Tips

About a 5 minute walk from Kodokan (弘道館). On the day of the fireworks display, convenience stores also get crowded, so secure your drinks early. You can reach the shore of Lake Senba (千波湖) about a 15-20 minute walk from the south exit of Mito Station, or by bus. During the Mito Komon Festival (水戸黄門まつり), there may also be food stalls and events set up around the station.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 45 minutes. In the bright evening hours, you can take your time with the meal and shopping.
