About this spot

About a 30-minute drive from Isahaya City, this roadside station sits at the gateway to the Shimabara Peninsula. It has a well-stocked direct-sales corner offering Nagasaki Prefecture specialties as well as fresh vegetables and seafood from the Shimabara Peninsula, and visitors can also enjoy local soft-serve ice cream and light snacks. The name Mizunashi comes from the Mizunashi River, which was damaged in the 1991 eruption of Mount Unzen-Fugendake, and houses damaged at the time are preserved and displayed outdoors, making it a place that prompts reflection on the power of nature. It is a spot where you can take a break during a long drive while getting a taste of Nagasaki's food and history.

Tips

About 30 minutes from central Isahaya via National Route 251. Considering the traffic congestion on the return trip on the day of the fireworks, it is reassuring to visit at this time and plan to head back to central Isahaya with plenty of time to spare. Put any local vegetables or souvenirs bought at the direct-sales corner in the car trunk. Since you will be returning late, do not forget to keep your purchases cool.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 15 minutes. This is a time when afternoon shoppers thin out, so you can take your time browsing
