About this spot

This sports plaza, developed by Shizuoka City on the Abe River (安倍川) riverbed, has six softball fields and a multipurpose ground. With the river's wide breadth and open sky, it's an excellent viewing area. On the day of the Abe River Fireworks Festival, food stalls begin lining up from evening, and the bustle spreads across the entire riverbed. Since it's within walking distance from the Shizuoka Station side, spread out the takeout food or stall fare you picked up near the station on a leisure sheet for dinner. The river breeze off the Abe River turns cool by evening, making the wait itself a pleasant summer evening. As the sun sets, the riverbed fills up, so arriving early is key.

Tips

About 20 minutes on foot from Shizuoka Station (静岡駅), or about 10 minutes on foot after getting off at the Tamachi bus stop on a Shizutetsu bus. Lines form at the food stalls near the venue before the show starts, so it's wise to get your food early. The riverbed has uneven ground and stones, so bring a light for the walk back at night. Temporary restrooms are set up, but lines form from evening onward, so use one early.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour 30 minutes. You can wait for the show at a relaxed pace while watching the Abe River scenery glow with the sunset.
