Located along Ferry-dori (フェリー通り) in central Takamatsu, this udon shop stays open continuously from morning to night. The noodles, aged for about three days, are known for their smooth texture and springy, chewy bite. The most popular dish is the kashiwa-ten bukkake, topped with local chicken tempura seasoned simply with salt and pepper. Since dinner later on will likely mean food stalls or a crowded venue, eating a solid meal now is the smart choice.

Tips

About a 10-minute walk from Tamamo Park. Some self-service shops have you carry a tray while lining up, so first-timers should watch how the line works near the register before joining it. Since some Sanuki udon shops serve fairly small portions, add tempura or rice balls to keep you full longer. Since dinner before the fireworks will probably be light, eat a hearty lunch now.
