About this spot

The Sakaide Ohashi Matsuri Offshore Fireworks Festival is a signature summer event of the region, in which about 5,000 fireworks shells launched from the sea off Sakaide Port color the Seto Inland Sea night sky. Being launched from the water gives an unusually open field of view, and the sheer power of large fireworks blooming one after another is breathtaking. The light of the fireworks reflected on the calm surface of the Seto Inland Sea, combined with the salt-scented night breeze, creates a special fireworks experience unlike any other. The climax of the night comes as a continuous barrage of fireworks bathes the port and the sea in light as the finale approaches.

Tips

Check with Sakaide City or the festival's official announcements in advance for whether the event will proceed in bad weather. Roads around the venue get congested after the show, so rather than leaving immediately, spending a little time at the pier before heading home can ease the congestion. Taxi waits back to Sakaide Station can be long, so it's worth checking a walking route in advance.

Best time to visit

Timed to the 20:00-20:30 show. Secure a spot beforehand and choose a spot with a clear view facing the sea to enjoy both the fireworks and their reflection on the water.
