About this spot

Held every Sunday on Oote-dori (追手筋), which extends west from Oote Gate in front of Kochi Castle, this is Japan's largest open-air market. With a history spanning approximately 300 years, about 700 vendors line more than 1 kilometer of the street, selling seasonal vegetables, fruits, flowers, plants, folk crafts, and antiques. You'll find Tosa citrus fruits such as pomelo and bushan, Tosa-forged blades, and other locally-produced items. Browsing alone is an enjoyable way to spend time. Since August 9 is a Sunday, the market will be held. Shops begin closing in the evening, so it's recommended to walk around in the mid-afternoon (around 3-4 PM).

高知市の夏の風物詩、高知市納涼花火大会です。2026年は8月9日(日)19時45分から21時まで、鏡川河畔みどりの広場を会場に約4,000発が打ち上げられます。市街地を流れる鏡川のすぐそばで見上げる花火は迫力満点で、川面に映るきらめく光も見どころのひとつ。スターマインや大玉が次々と夜空を彩り、フィナーレに向かうにつれて音と光が鏡川沿いを包み込みます。南国土佐の蒸し暑い夏の夜に、川風を感じながら見る花火は格別の一体感があります。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は高知市または大会主催者の公式発表で必ず確認してください。終了後は周辺道路と公共交通機関が大変混雑するため、フィナーレ後は河畔で少し余韻を楽しんでから時間差で帰るのがおすすめ。帰り道は足元が暗い箇所もあるため、スマートフォンのライトを活用してください。

Tips

Oote Gate area is the starting point. About 3 minutes on foot from Hirome Market. The Sunday Market begins closing before and around sunset, so arrive early in the evening. Most vendors are cash-only, so bring small change for convenience. From here to Fudeyama Park takes about 10 minutes by taxi or bus.
