Walk the striking rock coastline of the Geopark and experience the great nature carved by the Kuroshio
About this spot
Muroto Cape, protruding at the easternmost tip of Kochi Prefecture, is the central area of the region designated as a UNESCO World Geopark. Unusual and massive rock formations, carved over many years by the rough waves of the Kuroshio Current, line the coastline, and it is known as a place where you can walk and experience the workings of the Earth firsthand. The hiking trail at the cape's tip is well-maintained and easy for families to walk, allowing for leisurely exploration while observing the patterns of rock surfaces underfoot and the wave-formed shapes. The Muroto Cape Lighthouse (室戸岬灯台) stands on the high ground of the cape, and from the hiking trail you can see a wide view of the Pacific Ocean's horizon. Looking out over the sea where fireworks will light up tonight during the daytime helps tie the day's story together.

2026年8月22日(土)20時打ち上げ開始、室戸花火大会のクライマックスです。海の駅とろむの目の前の太平洋に約4,000発の花火が打ち上がり、水平線まで広がる開けた海を舞台に、山や川の花火大会とは比べものにならない開放感の中で大輪の光が次々と開きます。波の音とともに伝わる打ち上げの轟音と、海面に映り込む花火の反射が、この場所でしか味わえない特別な体験を作り出します。30分のプログラムはコンパクトながら密度が高く、フィナーレの連発は黒潮の海を一瞬昼のように照らします。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は室戸市の公式発表で事前に確認してください。終了後は駐車場から一斉に車が出るため、フィナーレ後は会場でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動を始めると渋滞に巻き込まれにくくなります。足元が暗くなるため、スマホのライトを活用して安全に移動しましょう。

Parking is available along National Route 55. Since the hiking trail has rocky areas, athletic shoes are safer than sandals. In summer, the sun is extremely strong, so a hat and sunscreen are essential. There are restrooms around the cape area. The Onishibito Cave is about a 5-minute drive away.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes required. Morning to midday sunlight brightly illuminates the sea surface, revealing the rock formations beautifully.
