About this spot

A cave along the coastline slightly north of Muroto Cape, said to be where the young Kobo Daishi (弘法大師) trained, is a historic site. Standing at the depth of the cave, only the sky and sea framed by the entrance fill your vision, allowing you to experience the tradition that "Kukai" derived his name from the two characters for "sky" and "sea." Nearby is the Shinmei Cave (神明窟) as well, and both are visited by many pilgrims as sites deeply associated with the Shikoku 88 Sacred Temples pilgrimage route. The place has a quietness different from the geological landscape of Muroto Cape, making it a nice accent point in cape sightseeing.

2026年8月22日(土)20時打ち上げ開始、室戸花火大会のクライマックスです。海の駅とろむの目の前の太平洋に約4,000発の花火が打ち上がり、水平線まで広がる開けた海を舞台に、山や川の花火大会とは比べものにならない開放感の中で大輪の光が次々と開きます。波の音とともに伝わる打ち上げの轟音と、海面に映り込む花火の反射が、この場所でしか味わえない特別な体験を作り出します。30分のプログラムはコンパクトながら密度が高く、フィナーレの連発は黒潮の海を一瞬昼のように照らします。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は室戸市の公式発表で事前に確認してください。終了後は駐車場から一斉に車が出るため、フィナーレ後は会場でしばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動を始めると渋滞に巻き込まれにくくなります。足元が暗くなるため、スマホのライトを活用して安全に移動しましょう。

Tips

There is a signpost along National Route 55, and parking space is secured nearby. Inside the cave, the ground is slippery in places, so hold hands with small children when entering. Admission is free and you can visit at any time. Michi no Eki Kiramesse Muroto is about a 20-minute drive away.
