About this spot

This white classical Western-style building, completed in Meiji 40 (1907), stands within Hisamatsu Park. It was built in a French architectural style to commemorate the visit of the Crown Prince (who later became the Taisho Emperor) and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Inside, furnishings and materials from that era are on display, conveying how Meiji-era Tottori spared no expense in its preparation. In sharp contrast to the grand natural landscape of the sand dunes, this offers a quiet moment to appreciate the history and architectural beauty of the castle town. Resting in the shade of the adjacent Hisamatsu Park is also recommended.

Tips

Return to Tottori Station by bus from Tottori Sand Dunes, then about 15 minutes on foot from the station or by bus to Hisamatsu Park stop. Admission is 150 yen for adults. Open 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM), closed Mondays. Check the Tottori City Tourism official website in advance for opening status on the day of the fireworks festival.

Best time to visit

Approximately 45 minutes required. In the afternoon light, the white walls are beautifully illuminated, and the building interior can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.
