Walk Japan's largest sand dunes and take in a panoramic view of the Japan Sea from the Horse's Back

About this spot

Stretching 2.4 km north-south and 16 km east-west, this is Japan's largest sand dune. When you climb to the "Horse's Back" (Umano Se), the largest sand ridge that symbolizes the dunes, the Japan Sea spreads before you in a moment, offering an unparalleled sense of openness. The wind patterns created by wind erosion and the tactile sensation of walking across the dune's undulation provide experiences rarely felt in daily life. From the entrance near the Sand Dune Center to the Horse's Back and back takes about an hour, so you can enjoy it without difficulty even on the day of the fireworks. In mid-summer, the sand's reflected heat is intense, so a hat and sun protection are essential.

鳥取を代表する夏祭り「しゃんしゃん祭」のフィナーレを飾る、市民納涼花火大会です。千代川の河川敷から打ち上がる約7,000発の花火は、鳥取の夏の夜空を鮮やかに染め上げます。川面に映る花火の光と、川辺に響く打ち上げ音が組み合わさって、河川敷ならではの迫力ある観覧体験を作り出します。スターマインや大玉など多彩なプログラムが続き、フィナーレの連発では空いっぱいに花火が開く壮観な景色が広がります。しゃんしゃん祭の名の由来である傘踊りのにぎわいとともに、鳥取の夏をしめくくる特別な一夜です。

Tips

荒天時の開催可否は鳥取市または大会公式の発表で事前に確認を。終了後は鳥取駅方面への帰り道が一斉に混み合うため、フィナーレ後は河川敷で少し余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめ。足元が暗いエリアもあるため、スマホのライトや小型ライトがあると安心です。

Tips

About 30 minutes by Hinomaru Bus from Tottori Station; get off at Sand Dune Center or Tottori Sand Dune bus stop. Entry is free. Wear comfortable sneakers for walking on sand. Avoid sandals as sand easily gets inside. Since there is no luggage storage in the dunes, it's recommended to leave large items for fireworks viewing at your hotel or in coin lockers at the station before heading out.
