This passenger terminal stands at the North Pier (北埠頭) in the Kagoshima Port Honko District, where the Amami Kaiun (奄美海運) ferries Amami and Kikai depart for the Amami Islands, including Kikaijima and Amami Oshima. Built on a quay facing Kinko Bay with Sakurajima in view, it serves as the gateway for people traveling to the islands. This Honko District area is also the venue for tonight's fireworks festival. Secure a viewing spot in the evening and grab dinner from the stalls and restaurants around the port. As the sun sinks, the sea turns orange and Sakurajima's silhouette emerges — you can watch this evening scene as you wait for the show to start.

Tips

About 15 minutes by bus from Kagoshima-Chuo Station (鹿児島中央駅); the area around Waterfront Park (ウォーターフロントパーク) also serves as a viewing area. On the day of the fireworks, the area around the venue gets crowded from evening onward, so secure your spot as early as possible. Convenience stores and stalls get crowded and sell out quickly, so buy your food and drinks early. It's also reassuring to check restroom locations while it's still light out.

About 1 hour 50 minutes. Be sure to enjoy the changing sky colors as Sakurajima's evening view transitions into the fireworks.
