When you return to Kajiki Port, the venue of tonight's fireworks festival, in the late afternoon, first make sure to secure your viewing location properly. Food stalls and restaurants will be setting up around the port, and the bustle before the fireworks will be building. Eating local specialties such as Kagoshima's famous chicken rice and satsuma-age (さつま揚げ) via takeout while waiting for the show to begin is part of the joy of your journey. Across Kinko Bay stands Sakurajima, creating a silhouette, and as the sun sets, the sky's colors shift moment by moment. The area around Kajiki Port will begin venue preparation early on the day of the fireworks festival. It is safest to secure a good viewing spot by 5 PM. Food stalls and convenience stores around the venue will be very crowded, so purchase drinks early. Identify the location of restrooms while it is still light out. October evenings at the port become cool, so bring a light jacket or shawl.

Best time to visit

Approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes required. From sunset to the start of the fireworks, you can enjoy the most luxurious time period with the sky's color changes.
