The great camphor tree standing within the grounds of Gamō Hachiman Shrine (蒲生八幡神社) boasts a trunk circumference of approximately 24 meters and a height of approximately 30 meters, and is certified as Japan's largest in the Ministry of the Environment's database of giant trees. With an estimated age of approximately 1,600 years, it is one of the most celebrated landmarks in Kagoshima Prefecture. Upon passing through the torii gate and entering the shrine grounds to face the great tree, you will be rendered speechless by its overwhelming scale. Both children and adults are equally amazed by this natural treasure of which Aira City is proud. Spending some time in the quiet air of the shrine grounds becomes a wonderful turning point in your day's journey.

2026年10月11日(日)20時から21時まで、加治木港を会場に約10,000発が打ち上げられるあいら市花火大会のクライマックスです。錦江湾の穏やかな水面の上空に次々と大輪が開き、秋の澄んだ夜空に鮮やかな色彩が広がります。遠くに桜島のシルエットが浮かぶ眺めは、鹿児島ならではの唯一無二の花火風景です。波の音と花火の轟音が重なり、港特有の臨場感の中で楽しむ1時間は、この1日のかけがえないクライマックスになります。秋の夜風の心地よさも加わり、夏とはひと味違う花火体験ができます。
Tips
荒天時の開催可否は大会主催者の公式発表で確認してください。終了後は会場周辺および加治木駅周辺が大変混雑します。フィナーレ後はすぐに動かず、しばらく余韻を楽しんでから移動する時間差帰宅がおすすめです。帰りの車や電車の時刻は事前に調べておきましょう。足元が暗い場所があるため小さなライトがあると安心です。

About 20 minutes by car from the area around JR Kajiki Station. Located in the central part of Gamō-cho (蒲生町), Aira City, with parking available near the shrine grounds. Viewing is free. You can get close to the roots of the great tree and touch them, but please do so with respect for its protection. When returning, selecting a route along the main road leading back to Kajiki Port will be smoother.
Best time to visit
Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes required. In autumn afternoon light, the branches and foliage of the great camphor tree are beautifully displayed.
