About this spot

A small museum standing right beside Kotohikihama (琴引浜), where you can learn how singing sand works. Sand that squeaks when you walk on it is a rare phenomenon that occurs only on beaches with a high quartz content and few impurities. Inside, sand samples and hands-on exhibits let parents and children learn the mechanism in an easy-to-understand way. Stopping by before sea bathing changes how the sand you are about to walk on looks, giving the outing a little of the feel of a summer research project.

Within walking distance of Kotohikihama Kaketsu Beach (琴引浜掛津海水浴場). Opening hours can change with the season, so checking official information in advance is recommended. The interior is air-conditioned, making it handy as a cool-down spot before or after sea bathing.

About 45 minutes. Stopping by in the morning before entering the sea makes playing on the sand even more fun
