About this spot

Located in Kyotango City (京丹後市), Shotenkyo and Kadonohama Beach (小天橋・葛野浜海水浴場) is open in 2026 from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 23, from 9:00 to 17:00. It is a beach popular with locals too, where you can enjoy a long stretch of white, gently shelving sand and the highly transparent water of the Sea of Japan (日本海). Swimming is free, and with showers (cold water free, hot water paid), restrooms, changing rooms and one beach shop in place, even families with small children can spend the day with peace of mind. From playing at the water's edge to building sandcastles, it is the climax of this one-day course, with plenty to enjoy until evening.

Tips

Parking is 1,500 yen per day for a standard car. Showers are free for cold water and paid for hot water, so having small change for changing is reassuring. Closing is at 17:00, so allow time for packing up and changing and wrap up around 16:45.

Best time to visit

From just after 1 p.m. the sunlight is steady, making it the time slot to enjoy the sea at length until 17:00
