About 20 minutes by car from Takenohama (竹野浜), Kinosaki Onsen (城崎温泉) is one of Japan's representative hot spring towns, with willow trees and wooden inns lining the Otani River (大谿川). Its specialty is the tour of seven public baths done in yukata, and dropping into just one gives you a moment full of travel atmosphere. Even just strolling along the river has charm, and with souvenir shops and amusements such as shooting galleries dotted about, children stay entertained. Taking in the mood of the hot spring town before sea bathing is a way of traveling unique to this region.

兵庫県豊岡市に位置する竹野浜海水浴場は、2026年は7月1日(水)から8月23日(日)まで、8時から17時の時間で開設されます。透明度の高さで知られる日本海の遠浅のビーチで、白い砂浜と青い海のコントラストが美しく、山陰海岸ジオパークの一角らしい雄大な景観も魅力です。浜辺には浜茶屋(海の家)が6軒並び、食事や休憩、シャワーなどに利用できます。小さな子ども連れにはライフジャケットのレンタル(500円)も用意されているので、波遊びの安心材料になります。有料駐車場もあるので、車での来訪もしやすい海水浴場です。

Tips

遊泳できるのは17時まで。着替えの時間を見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。浜茶屋の利用や駐車場は有料なので、現金や小銭を用意しておきましょう。ライフジャケットのレンタルは数に限りがあるため、混雑日は早めの利用がおすすめです。

Tips

Each public bath has different hours and closing days, so checking in advance is reassuring. The willow-lined street has many cobblestones and small bridges, so there are stretches where a stroller is hard to push. A tenugui hand towel also makes a nice memento of the bath tour.
