About this spot

A white lighthouse standing on Cape Taito (太東岬) in Isumi City (いすみ市), one of the finest viewpoints on the Boso Peninsula (房総半島). From the cape's walking path you can take in the horizon of the Pacific and the deeply indented coastline, and on clear days the blue of sky and sea stands out especially vividly. There is a small plaza beside the lighthouse, suited to a short break while feeling the sea breeze. Going a little beyond Onjuku (御宿) lets you view the sea you are about to swim in from a different angle, making it an accent to the trip.

Tips

From the parking lot to the lighthouse you walk a short way along a footpath. Some parts of the cape edge have no fence, so holding small children's hands is reassuring. The lighthouse interior is often closed to the public, so enjoying the exterior and the view is the main draw.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. In the morning you are less likely to face into the sun, and the sea view looks beautiful
