Sea bathing all afternoon on a beach with lifeguards on duty
About this spot
Oya Beach (大谷海水浴場) in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture (宮城県気仙沼市) is open in 2026 from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, August 23, from 9:00 to 16:00 (the official beach opening is July 5). Swimming can be enjoyed for free, and with paid showers, changing rooms, restrooms, a shop and a rest area in place, plus lifeguards on duty, it is a beach where even families with small children can spend the day with peace of mind. With the clear water and open sand typical of the Sanriku coast (三陸), you can savor the afternoon at a leisurely pace, from playing at the water's edge to playing in the sand. Top up on light snacks and drinks at the shop or cool off in the rest area, and enjoy the sea right up to the 16:00 close.
