About this spot

A roadside station right beside Oya Beach (大谷海水浴場) along National Route 45 (国道45号), whose pride is the sweeping sea view from the observation deck under its wide roof. Inside there are eateries using seafood from Kesennuma (気仙沼) and a souvenir corner handling local specialties, handy for meals and shopping before or after sea bathing. There is indoor rest space too, so you can cool off and take a breather even on a hot day. A meal while gazing at the seaside scenery is a moment in this day's course when the family can take it easy.

宮城県気仙沼市にある大谷海水浴場は、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月23日(日)まで、9時から16時の時間で開設されます(海開きは7月5日)。遊泳は無料で楽しめ、有料のシャワーや脱衣所、トイレ、売店、休憩所が整い、監視員も配置されているため、小さな子ども連れの家族でも安心して過ごせるビーチです。三陸の海らしい澄んだ水と開けた砂浜で、波打ち際の水遊びから砂遊びまで、午後のひとときをゆったりと満喫できます。売店で軽食や飲み物を買い足したり、休憩所で涼んだりしながら、16時の終了時間まで海を楽しみましょう。

Tips

遊泳は無料ですが、シャワーと脱衣所は有料なので小銭を用意しておくと安心です。砂浜は日中熱くなるのでビーチサンダルが必携です。遊泳時間は16時までなので、着替えの時間を見込んで15分ほど前には切り上げるのがおすすめです。監視員が常駐していますが、小さな子どもは水際でも目を離さないようにしましょう。

Tips

It can get crowded at lunchtime on weekends during the swimming season, so entering early in the 11 o'clock hour is recommended. Inside there are child-friendly restrooms and baby chairs, built so that families with small children can use it easily.
