Opened in 2019, Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi Bridge is approximately 356 meters long, connecting the mainland to Kesennuma Oshima island, and serves as a symbol of recovery from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. From the Panorama Park at the base of the bridge, you can view the white cable-stayed bridge and the calm Oshima Seto Strait in one sweeping vista—a perfect photo spot in the cool morning air. This is the ideal entrance to your day on the island, building anticipation for crossing by bridge rather than by boat. The parking area is generously sized, making it easy to stop by car.
Tips
About 10 minutes by car from Kesennuma city center. The viewing plaza has little shade, so it's recommended to visit in the morning. There are restrooms available, so it's a good idea to use them before crossing to the island.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. The soft morning light provides the best views of the bridge.
