Next stop: A stunning viewpoint overlooking Tsunoshima Ohashi BridgeAbout this spot
The white lighthouse standing at the northern tip of Tsunoshima (角島) is a historic stone lighthouse built in the 9th year of the Meiji era (1876), and has been selected as one of Japan's 50 finest lighthouses. The area around the lighthouse is maintained as a grassy park, and its open view over the Suo Sea (周防灘) is a major draw. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse, and once you reach the top of the spiral staircase, a panoramic view of Tsunoshima and the Sea of Japan opens up before you. Get your body moving before swimming and enjoy a refreshing view fitting for the start of your trip.
Tips
It's a short walk from the parking lot to the lighthouse. A visitor donation is required to climb the lighthouse. The spiral staircase is narrow, so hold hands with small children as you climb. There's little shade in the park, so don't forget a hat and water.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Early in the morning the sunlight is gentler, and the view is also clearer.
