About this spot

A short walk from Shizuki Park (指月公園), this castle town district preserves its Edo-period street plan intact. Lanes lined with white plaster walls and summer mandarin trees still convey the look of the town where the loyalists of the late Edo period lived. Famous samurai residences and former homes are dotted throughout, including the birthplace of Takasugi Shinsaku (高杉晋作誕生地) and the former residence of Kido Takayoshi (木戸孝允旧宅), so simply walking while reading the roadside information boards makes for an enjoyable history stroll. The neat grid of streets is hard to get lost in, making it an easy walking course even with children.

萩城下町のすぐそばに広がる、北長門海岸国定公園内の海水浴場です。2026年は7月18日(土)から8月23日(日)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から17時まで。快水浴場百選にも選ばれた白い砂浜と穏やかな波が特徴で、指月公園の緑を背景にした景観の美しさも魅力です。駐車場は70台分あり(1回1,000円)、遊泳そのものは無料。焚火・BBQ・花火は禁止されているので、砂遊びや波打ち際での水遊びを中心にゆったり過ごすビーチです。夕方まで思いきり夏を満喫しましょう。

Tips

指月公園・城下町からすぐの立地で、午前の観光からそのまま流れやすいのが魅力です。遊泳無料ですが駐車場は開設期間中1回1,000円かかるので小銭の用意を。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルが必携です。遊泳時間は17時までなので、着替えの時間も見込んで15分前には切り上げましょう。

Tips

About 5 minutes on foot from Shizuki Park (指月公園). In summer, choosing shaded lanes out of the sun makes for a far more comfortable walk. Most of the former residences are viewed from the outside; some charge admission for interior visits.
