About this spot

A park spreading across an elevated plateau overlooking the Mogami River mouth, featuring Japan's oldest wooden hexagonal lighthouse and a half-size replica of the historical trading ship Sengoku-sen (千石船). From the park, you can see panoramic views of the Japan Sea, the Mogami River, and Sakata's port town, experiencing the history of Sakata that flourished during the Edo to Meiji periods via the western maritime route. The spacious grassy areas and playground are perfect for moving around before swimming. Also known as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, summer brings lush green shade for pleasant strolling.
