See Jodogahama's superb scenery from the water on a cliff cruise among the gulls

The sightseeing boat Umineko Maru (うみねこ丸), departing from the pier at Jodogahama (浄土ヶ浜), is the classic cruise for taking in superb views of the ria coast and its succession of white rhyolite cliffs from the water. As the boat gets under way, flocks of black-tailed gulls fly right up alongside in search of food, and you can join in the feeding. The sheer presence of the cliffs seen from below has a charm quite different from the view on land, and you can really appreciate how clear the water at Jodogahama is before you swim in it. Absorbing for children and adults alike, it is the day's other highlight.

宮古市に位置する浄土ヶ浜海水浴場は、2026年は7月4日(土)から8月30日(日)まで開設されます。営業時間は8時30分から17時までで、7月18日から8月16日は無休、それ以外の期間は土日祝のみの開設です。真っ白な流紋岩の岩肌と青松、透明度の高い青い海に囲まれた入り江は「さながら極楽浄土のごとし」と称された景勝地で、波が穏やかで遠浅なため小さな子ども連れでも安心して楽しめます。遊泳そのものは無料で、更衣室・トイレ・貸ロッカーも無料で利用可能。シャワーは3分300円の有料です。駐車場は500台以上とゆとりがあり、家族連れでも訪れやすい海水浴場です。

Tips

更衣室・トイレ・貸ロッカーは無料、シャワーは3分300円なので小銭を用意しておきましょう。岩場が周辺にあるためビーチサンダルがあると安心です。営業終了は17時なので、着替えの時間を見込んで16時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。

Tips

It departs from the pier near Jodogahama Rest House (浄土ヶ浜レストハウス). The trip takes about 35 to 40 minutes. Kappa Ebisen (かっぱえびせん) shrimp snacks for feeding the gulls can be bought on board or at nearby shops. On windy days, a jacket is reassuring.
