Swim until evening at a leading Tohoku beach ringed by white rhyolite and ria coast

About this spot

Jodogahama Beach (浄土ヶ浜海水浴場), in Miyako City (宮古市), is open in 2026 from Saturday 4 July to Sunday 30 August. Hours are 8:30 to 17:00; it opens daily from 18 July to 16 August, and only on weekends and public holidays outside that period. The cove, ringed by pure white rhyolite rock faces, green pines and clear blue water, is a scenic spot described as being just like the Pure Land of paradise, and its calm waves and shallow water make it safe to enjoy even with small children. Swimming itself is free, and changing rooms, toilets and rental lockers are also free to use. Showers cost 300 yen for 3 minutes. Parking is generous at over 500 spaces, making this an easy beach for families to visit.
