Next stop: Nationally Designated Natural Monument – Commanding view of striking rock formations from the observation platformAbout this spot
An ancient temple known as the 10th stop on the Shikoku 88-Temple Pilgrimage Route. The grounds are accessed via 333 stone steps, and at the top stands an Important Cultural Property—a towering pagoda. From partway up the steps and before the main hall, you can see sweeping views of Awa City's rice paddies and the Yoshino River basin plains. In the crisp morning air, the views are particularly refreshing. Counting the steps with children as you climb makes for a memorable travel experience. A visit early in the morning, before the sun becomes too intense, is highly recommended.
Tips
Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the path from the parking lot to the main hall includes stone steps and uphill sections. Due to the large number of steps, take breaks with children and bring plenty to drink. The stamp office may not be open during very early hours, so allow extra time for your visit.
Best time to visit
Approximately 45 minutes required. Early morning, around 8:00 AM, when temperatures haven't risen yet, is recommended.
