Wakamatsu South Waterfront Street (若松南海岸通り)

Flow of the course

About this spot

This coastal street continues from near the Wakamatsu Ferry Terminal, still lined with Meiji- and Taisho-era Western-style buildings that recall the port town's heyday as a coal-shipping hub. You can walk leisurely while admiring period buildings such as the red-brick shipping company building, and at the end of the street you can see the red Wakato Bridge, which connects Wakamatsu and Tobata. In the morning there are few passersby, so you can walk at a relaxed pace and take photos even with children. It's just the right distance for a warm-up before swimming.

Tips

There is parking near the Wakamatsu Ferry Terminal and at the foot of the Wakato Bridge. Some of the buildings have facilities open to visitors, so stop in if you have time. The summer sun is strong, so it's reassuring to bring a hat and drinks.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Early morning is cool and easy for walking.
