About this spot

A small vermilion hall standing on the rocks of a cliff, just a short distance from the Tenshin Memorial Museum of Art (天心記念五浦美術館). It is said that Okakura Tenshin (岡倉天心), called the father of modern Japanese art, designed it himself and used it as a place for contemplation, and around the hall a powerful landscape unfolds with the rough Pacific waves close at hand. Peering inside the hall or gazing at the sea beyond the rocks makes it popular as a photogenic spot too. Facing openly toward the sea, it is a moment that lets you feel the expanse of the water you are about to swim in.

北茨城市の磯原地区にある海水浴場で、2026年は7月17日(金)から8月16日(日)まで開設されます。沖合に浮かぶ二つの岩礁「二ツ島」を望む景観が特徴で、写真映えする海岸として親しまれています。無料駐車場は約80〜100台分と広く確保されており、無料のシャワーも利用可能。ライフセーバーが常駐しているため、小さな子ども連れでも安心して海水浴を楽しめます。遊泳は無料。波打ち際での水遊びから砂遊びまで、夕方まで思いきり夏の海を満喫しましょう。

Tips

無料駐車場があるため車での来場もしやすいですが、夏の週末は早めの到着がおすすめです。シャワーは無料ですが、着替えスペースは混み合うことがあるのでラッシュガードなど脱ぎ着しやすい服装が便利。ライフセーバーの指示には必ず従い、遊泳エリア内で楽しみましょう。

Tips

You can view it from within the grounds with a museum admission ticket. The promenade near the rocks can get wet and slippery underfoot, so shoes that are easy to walk in are recommended over sandals. On windy days hats blow off easily, so take care.
