One of the leading fishing ports of Kitaibaraki City, this port town is known for landing some of the largest quantities of anglerfish in Japan. Eateries and direct-sales shops handling seafood are gathered around the harbor, where you can enjoy meals made with fresh local fish and shellfish, starting with anglerfish dishes. Eating while watching fishing boats come and go gives a distinct travel feeling within a day headed for the sea. Once you have eaten well and refueled, it is time to head for the afternoon at the beach.

北茨城市の磯原地区にある海水浴場で、2026年は7月17日(金)から8月16日(日)まで開設されます。沖合に浮かぶ二つの岩礁「二ツ島」を望む景観が特徴で、写真映えする海岸として親しまれています。無料駐車場は約80〜100台分と広く確保されており、無料のシャワーも利用可能。ライフセーバーが常駐しているため、小さな子ども連れでも安心して海水浴を楽しめます。遊泳は無料。波打ち際での水遊びから砂遊びまで、夕方まで思いきり夏の海を満喫しましょう。
Tips
無料駐車場があるため車での来場もしやすいですが、夏の週末は早めの到着がおすすめです。シャワーは無料ですが、着替えスペースは混み合うことがあるのでラッシュガードなど脱ぎ着しやすい服装が便利。ライフセーバーの指示には必ず従い、遊泳エリア内で楽しみましょう。
Tips
In summer the shops serving anglerfish dishes are limited, so checking their operating status in advance is reassuring. Some shops offer lighter menus such as seafood rice bowls, so you can choose to suit your children's tastes. Parking space around the port is limited, so an early visit is recommended.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour. Going in during the 12 o'clock hour, at lunchtime before your swim, makes it easier to avoid the crowds
