About this spot

One of Kita-Ibaraki City's leading fishing ports, this harbor town is known for having one of the highest monkfish catches in Japan. Restaurants and direct-sale shops specializing in seafood gather around the port, offering monkfish dishes and other meals made with freshly caught local fish. Eating while watching the fishing boats come and go gives the day a distinct sense of travel atmosphere. Once you've eaten well and recharged your energy, it's finally time to head to the beach for the afternoon.

Tips

Since fewer restaurants serve monkfish dishes in summer, it's reassuring to check ahead on business status. Some shops also offer lighter menu items like seafood rice bowls, so you can choose according to your children's preferences. Parking around the port is limited, so arriving early is recommended.

Best time to visit

About 1 hour. Entering sometime in the noon hour, before your swim, makes it easier to avoid crowds.
