Nihondaira Ropeway (日本平ロープウェイ)
Flow of the course
About this spot
Connecting the Nihondaira summit and Kunozan Toshogu Shrine in about 5 minutes, this is the aerial gateway to your shrine visit. From the gondola, you can take in sweeping views of the verdant Byobu Valley, the blue Suruga Bay, and the strawberry cultivation greenhouses lining the Kunozan coast—the entire journey offers one spectacular vista after another. In past times, pilgrims climbed 1,159 stone steps from the seaside, but the ropeway lets you ascend effortlessly while enjoying the sensation of an aerial stroll. This perfect opening experience builds anticipation as you head toward the sacred resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
