Dofutsu Strait (土渕海峡)

Flow of the course

About this spot

A strait separating Honcho and Fuchisaki districts in Tonosho Town, only 9.93 meters wide at its narrowest point. Recognized by Guinness World Records in 1996 as "the world's narrowest strait," it's a unique spot distinctive to Shodoshima. The Tonosho Town Office issues crossing certificates for a fee, which is worth keeping as a souvenir. Looking down from the bridge, children will be amazed at how narrow the waterway actually is.

Tips

About 5 minutes by car from Angel Road. Crossing certificates can be obtained at the Tonosho Town Office window (fee-based). There's little shade along the strait, so remember to bring a hat and water in summer.

Best time to visit

About 30 minutes. It's recommended to visit in the cool morning hours.
