Enjoy spectacular views of Kinko Bay and Kaimon Peak in the afternoon
About this spot
A convenient scenic spot with an observatory on Uomimi Peak (about 224m above sea level) right beside Ibusuki Harbor, accessible by driving nearly to the summit. From the observatory, you can view the blue Kinko Bay, the Ibusuki townscape, and the beautiful Kaimon Peak (also called Satsuma Fuji), as well as the Ibusuki Harbor Coastal Beach you'll swim in later from above. It's an ideal spot for commemorative photos overlooking the sea, and it's convenient to stop by car, a plus for families.

指宿市街から近い指宿港のそばに広がる海水浴場で、2026年は7月18日(土)から8月31日(月)まで、10時から18時まで開設されます。更衣室とシャワー室は仮設ながら無料で利用でき、約190台分の駐車場も整っているので、車で訪れる家族連れにも利用しやすいのが魅力です。遊泳は無料。指宿港の穏やかな海は波打ち際での水遊びから砂遊びまで、小さな子どもとも安心して楽しめます。午前の砂むし温泉で温まった体を、午後は海でしっかり冷やしながら、指宿の夏を締めくくりましょう。
Tips
遊泳時間は18時までなので、着替えの時間も見込んで17時45分ごろには切り上げるのがおすすめです。更衣室・シャワーは仮設のため数に限りがあり、混雑時は順番待ちになることも。夏の砂浜は熱いのでビーチサンダルを忘れずに。
Tips
About a 5-minute drive from Ibusuki Harbor Coastal Beach. Railings around the observatory make it relatively safe for small children. Don't forget your hat and drinks as the sun is strong.

About 45 minutes. The sea shines beautifully in afternoon light.
