Pay respects at a shrine known as a black-tailed gull breeding ground for a safe journey
About this spot
Located about 10 minutes north by car from Shirahama Beach, this shrine sits atop Kabushima, which was once a small island separated from the mainland. It is also known as a National Natural Monument where approximately 30,000 black-tailed gulls migrate and breed each year, and the shrine grounds are filled with their distinctive cries and bustling energy. After undergoing reconstruction following the 2015 fire, this landmark remains one of Hachinohe's most iconic spots, where people and black-tailed gulls coexist. From the summit, you can also enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean, building anticipation for the beach ahead.

八戸市鮫町にある白浜海水浴場は、2026年は7月10日(金)から8月30日(日)まで開設され、遊泳時間は9時から17時までです。太平洋に面した白い砂浜と青い海が広がり、種差海岸に連なる景勝地の一角として地元の家族連れに親しまれています。遊泳は無料で、更衣室とシャワーが用意されているので、着替えや水遊び後の身支度も安心です。ただし更衣室・シャワーの利用は16時30分までとなっているので、時間を見ながら早めに切り上げるのがおすすめです。波打ち際での水遊びから砂遊びまで、夕方近くまでたっぷり夏を満喫できます。
Tips
遊泳・利用は無料ですが、更衣室とシャワーは16時30分までのため、水遊びは16時ごろを目安に切り上げて着替えの時間を確保しましょう。夏の砂浜は熱くなるのでビーチサンダルが必携です。詳しくは八戸市公式サイトでも案内されています。
Tips
During summer, which coincides with the black-tailed gulls' breeding season, watch for droppings from above—an umbrella or hat is recommended. The stone steps are short and easy for strollers to climb, and using a baby carrier for carrying is also comfortable and recommended.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. Early morning hours have fewer visitors, allowing you to enjoy watching the gulls in peace.
