A few minutes' drive from Hara Castle Ruins in Minamiarima-cho, Harajo Onsen Masago is a bathing and dining facility overlooking the Ariake Sea. It's a good stop to fill up before swimming and rest a body warmed from the morning's historic-site touring, and you can also enjoy meals made with local ingredients. Lunch while gazing out at the calm sea through the window builds even more anticipation for Shirahama Beach in the afternoon. Being able to wash off sweat before swimming is also a welcome point for families.
Tips
Dining-only visits are also possible. If you're stopping here before swimming, it's a good idea to keep your bath brief given the extra step of changing clothes later.
