Heigen-dori (平原通), stretching north from JR Obihiro Station (帯広駅), is the main street of Obihiro, the central city of Tokachi (十勝). In the morning it's still quiet, so you can stroll leisurely past the shops lining the arcade. Cafes, bakeries, and other shops good for breakfast or a light break are scattered along the way. Start your day by soaking up the atmosphere of Obihiro's streets first. From here, it's just a few minutes' drive to Ryokugaoka Park (緑ヶ丘公園), home to the zoo.
Tips
Right by JR Obihiro Station. Many shops aren't open yet in the morning, so it's best to focus on a stroll rather than shopping. Try not to carry too much at this point so you can move around freely.
