About this spot

This is an old Nichiren-sect temple close to Isawa Onsen, known for carrying a legend related to ukai (cormorant fishing) on the Fuefuki River. According to tradition, the temple was built to console the spirit of a cormorant fisherman who lost his life after entering a river closed to fishing, and it became the subject of the Noh play Ukai. Tonight's fireworks festival, Isawa Onsen Ukai Fireworks, also takes its name from this local history of ukai. As you visit the quiet grounds, take a moment to reflect on the story behind the fireworks you're about to see. The grounds are compact, making it an easy stop even for a short visit.

About 15 minutes by car from Fuefukigawa Fruit Park. It's also within walking distance from the center of Isawa Onsen. Please keep a calm, quiet manner during your visit. You can walk directly from here to your next stop, strolling Isawa Onsen.
