View fireworks from the Usui River riverbed, a summer night in the cormorant fishing village

About this spot

Fireworks displayed from the Usui River riverbed in front of Usui City Hall on July 20, 2026 (Monday). A distinctly local summer tradition of this land where cormorant fishing legends remain, with the appeal of fireworks reflecting on the river surface and mingling with the lights of hot spring hotels along both banks. Though only 10 minutes long from 8:50 PM to 9:00 PM, the concentrated display colors the night sky impressively. Watching fireworks from a hot spring town's summer festival in a refined, serene atmosphere makes for an especially memorable travel memory. The event is also held on July 22 (Wednesday) at the same location (July 21 is closed), allowing flexibility in scheduling based on weather or crowds.

Tips

The riverbed gets very crowded on the day, so place-holding from around 5 PM onward is recommended. In case of bad weather, cancellation is possible—check the official Usui City announcement for confirmation. Roads to the station and parking lot are congested after the show, so leisurely enjoying the afterglow before heading home is recommended.

Best time to visit
