As its name suggests (octopus island), this small fishing town's port in Suzu City is known for octopus fishing. Walking along the breakwater, you'll come across a simple, charming scene of fishing boats lined up, with the calm atmosphere unique to a port town that has long supported local fishing. Free from the crowds of typical tourist spots, it's a perfect place for a relaxed family stroll. Take your time in the afternoon while enjoying the sea breeze.
Tips
About a 10-minute drive from Mitsukejima, and close to the venue in Iida-machi as well. Watch your footing since it's a working port, and observe quietly so as not to disturb the fishing workers.
Best time to visit
About 45 minutes. On calm days, the afternoon offers a peaceful view of the harbor.
