In the center of Kuroki, which once flourished as a rural town along the old Bungo Betsuji road (旧豊後別路), old townhouses with white-walled storehouses and lattice doors still stand side by side today. The calm townscape, which reflects the town's history of developing from the castle town of Nekoo Castle (猫尾城) into a rural town of the Kurume Domain (久留米藩), is just the right size for a leisurely walk. Without the bustle typical of tourist spots, take a relaxed family stroll through the quiet streets where local life still thrives.

Within walking distance of the Great Wisteria of Kuroki (黒木の大藤). Sunlight is strong in summer, so take frequent breaks and stay hydrated. Since part of the townscape includes private homes, please keep your visit quiet.
