About this spot

A hands-on facility built right next to Saiku Ruins, where you can learn about the world of the Heian-era Saio through play. The highlight is the corner where you can try on noble costumes such as the juni-hitoe (twelve-layered robe) and kariginu (hunting robe), letting families dress in Heian attire together for commemorative photos. There is also a corner where you can experience period games such as kai-awase (shell-matching), so even children who are not fond of history can enjoy themselves without getting bored. The museum is air-conditioned, making it a handy rest stop during the hot summer hours. Visiting it together with Saiku Ruins and the museum brings a day in the Heian period much closer to life.
