This roadside station is known for Kihoku Town's specialty sunfish (manbo) dishes, and sits along National Route 42, not far from Nagashima Port. Sunfish sashimi and tatsuta-age (Japanese-style fried sunfish) are beloved specialty items, offering rare seafood you won't easily find elsewhere. The local-products corner also carries dried fish from Kumano-nada and other regional specialties, making it a great spot to look for souvenirs. With views out over the sea, it offers the open, relaxed atmosphere befitting the start of your trip.
Tips
Just off the Kii-Nagashima Interchange, or within walking distance of Kii-Nagashima Station by public transport. Sunfish dishes may not always be available depending on the day's catch, so it's a good idea to check ahead of time.
Best time to visit
About 1 hour 15 minutes. Lunchtime can get crowded, so arriving a little early is recommended
